Are Dentures an Inevitable Part of Your Future?

Posted on 6/30/2016 by Dr. Michael Drone
A close up of a pair of dentures. Many people believe that dentures are an inevitable part of their future. Individuals are often under the impression that tooth loss is just a normal part of the aging process and that when it happens they will need to invest in dentures to restore their smile. Fortunately, that is not the case, and people are keeping their natural teeth longer than ever.

The good news is, with proper dental hygiene, regular cleanings with your dental hygienist, and dental exams, your teeth can actually last throughout your life. In fact, they were intended to do so.

As long as you are caring for your teeth properly, you can avoid dentures and other full mouth restoration systems, so make sure that you are brushing at least twice a day, flossing once per day, and rinsing out your mouth with mouthwash frequently.

Even if you are suffering from tooth loss, dentures don't have to be a part of your future. Many people dislike the idea of dentures because they can look unnatural and may make speaking and eating difficult.

For this reason, people are more commonly turning to dental implants as a solution for tooth loss, and this permanent system can vastly improve the look and function of your smile. Since implants will grow into your jaw bone, they aren't removable, and you won't ever need to worry about replacing them.

Even if you are currently wearing dentures, dental implants are an option for you. They won't slide around or slip in your mouth while you are speaking or eating, and this could potentially save you a lot of embarrassment in social situations.

If you are interested in finding out more about denture alternatives, or if you need tips on how to better care of your teeth so that you can avoid dentures in the first place, contact our office today.
