There are a lot of procedures out there that use dental cement. Do you know what goes into it? Or do you trust that whatever we put into your mouth is totally healthy for you?
The good news is, if you trust that we only put healthy items into your mouth, then you are doing well relying on our experience and expertise. When we need to use dental cement, we make sure to use only healthy, safe materials that won't cause damage to your oral health in the process.
The Purpose of Dental CementThe ingredients in dental cement are put together so that they create a bond between typically something like a crown and the original tooth. These ingredients are mixed so that there is a bit of wiggle room when the cement is first applied, but then as time goes on, the cement continues to harden. This forms a bond so tight that even microscopic bacteria should never be able to break through it.
This is true for both temporary and permanent dental cement. Recent studies have even shown that as time passes with temporary cement, it can function just the same as permanent cement in many cases, and still be just as healthy for your mouth.
The only things we put into your mouth that stay there are items we know are healthy and safe for your oral health. You do not need to fear any of the materials that we use, as they are always going to be safe for you to have in your mouth, both short and long-term.
If you find yourself needing some type of procedure where dental cement is involved, don't fret. You can always ask us for a better understanding of what we use and why we use it.
