How to Tell if a Denture Sore is Getting Infected

Denture Sores Drone Prosthodontics IN 46383When you have a denture sore, it's possible that it may get infected. This can happen in a few different ways. Once infected, these are known as abscesses.

Different Types of Denture Sores

Essentially. A dental abscess is a collection of pus that forms on the inside of your tooth (a periapical abscess), gums (a periodontal abscess), or even the bone that's responsible for holding your tooth in place.

This collection of pus is the root of a bacterial infection that can be painful. Even if it isn't painful, you still need to have it looked at by us since it won't simply go away by itself. Instead, these abscesses may spread to another part of your body where they can make you sick.

Symptoms of a Denture Sore

There are various symptoms associated with denture sores. However, these usually start out as a throbbing pain in the area where the sore is located. This pain will gradually get worse, spreading to your ear, jaw, and neck on the same side as the sore is located.

It will feel worse when you're lying down, so you won't sleep well. When you're awake your face may look red and swollen. While these are symptoms that other people will notice, you yourself will feel certain unnoticeable symptoms as well.

These include a tender, discolored, loose tooth and shiny, red, swollen gums. Feeling this way will make you sensitive to hot or cold food and drink. They'll also give you bad breath and an unpleasant taste in your mouth.

When you notice any of these symptoms, it's imperative that you get an appointment with us right away. Leaving the problem unchecked can result in a high fever that makes you feel unwell. Eventually you could no longer be able to open your mouth, swallow, or breathe so make sure you contact us right away.
