How is Brushing Dentures Different Than Brushing Your Teeth?

Posted on 7/20/2018 by Dr. Michael Drone
How is Brushing Dentures Different Than Brushing Your Teeth? There are any rules associated with brushing the teeth. The amount of time, the way that is done, the type of toothbrush and the type of toothpaste all play a role in how to brush the teeth the right way.

If a person has turned to dentures, they have to learn how to care for these. Cleaning dentures shares some of the things with brushing the teeth, but also has some other things that are done differently.

What is the Same?
When it comes to brushing either your teeth or dentures, there are some similarities. Both are done daily. They both require a brush and some type of cleaner. There is such a thing as brushing too hard for both teeth and dentures. Brushing is also only one part of the proper care of the teeth and dentures

How They Differ
The biggest difference between brushing the teeth and dentures is that you remove the dentures to brush them. You do not remove your teeth to do this. It is also important to brush the gums to remove any debris or plaque.

There are many choices when it comes to what type of toothbrush to use for both teeth and dentures. We recommend using a soft toothbrush for dentures to prevent any damage. It is possible to use an electric toothbrush for dentures, but you need to take care when doing so. For best results, there are denture toothbrushes. These brushes have dual heads that are better at cleaning the dentures.

It is not enough to brush your teeth or dentures. You also need to know how to do it properly. The techniques for using dentures is similar to brushing the teeth, but it is not the same. We recommend talking to our dental professionals to learn how to care for your dentures including how to brush them. Like when you were younger and learning to brush your teeth, it will help to keep your dentures healthier when you know how to do it right.
