All on Four - Solutions for Tooth Replacement

A healthy smile and a stable bite play a significant role in how an individual can look and feel. Anyone missing one or more teeth understands how tooth loss can affect your self-confidence when smiling and can be uncomfortable when eating in public. You may even avoid social situations. Tooth loss can impact your daily life. When a tooth is lost people see changes in their appearance, ability to chew normally,
deterioration of their jaw bone, and experience an overall decline in their health. Dental implants can change your life and are the most advanced options today to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or all of your teeth. Implants can also be used in assisting maxillofacial prostheses like an ear, nose, or eye.

Dental implants are made of titanium or zirconia, are biocompatible, and are well tolerated by our bodies. This form of tooth replacement stands to offer one of the most sturdy and natural-looking dental solutions. Implants are a well scientific proven solution for over 50 years, dating back to the mid-1960’s and are the new standard of care for tooth replacement.

All on Four - Benefits

There are many benefits to having dental implants and are specific to each patient, but three main benefits for all patients are improvement in eating, speaking, and smiling with confidence. Some of the more specific benefits for dental implants are as follows:

  • They prevent jaw bone deterioration. When a tooth is lost, the jawbone begins to shrink from lack of stimulation and becomes brittle. A dental implant mimics the normal function of a tooth. It causes stimulation to the jawbone and the bone bonds to the implant.
This feature prevents bone loss and premature aging.
  • They look, feel and function like natural teeth and have the highest success rate of any dental restoration.
  • They are resistant to bacteria that cause decay and periodontal disease.
  • They can eliminate the sticky denture adhesives for those patients with dentures and removable partial dentures.
  • They can restore proper chewing ability up to 100%, allowing a better diet, improved health and quality of life.
  • They can be a lifetime solution.

Candidates for the All-on-4 Dental Implant Procedure

The All-on-4 Implant Procedure is an excellent option for most patients. One of the main benefits of this procedure is the way the implants are placed. Implants are angled in such a way to avoid areas that would need traditional bone grafting or areas where there is not enough bone and grafting cannot be performed. In short, since this procedure essential eliminates bone grafting, which takes months to heal before implants can be placed, individuals have implants placed in one setting. For patients that cannot or do not want to have bone grafting procedures but want a fixed, permanent dental bridge are the ideal candidates for the All-on-4 Implant Procedure.

All-on-4 dental implants are a good option for individuals who want a change from broken, missing, or damaged teeth, or removable dentures to permanently fixed implant prosthesis. Some individuals are not candidates for bone grafting and this All-on-4 dental implant procedure is their only solution for fixed permanent teeth.

If you have unhealthy and painful teeth from either decay or periodontal disease or a wearing a removable partial denture or ill-fitting denture, the All-on-4 Implant Procedure can provide a stunning smile with in just one day without pain and without ever needing denture adhesive or removing your teeth again. Lastly, All-on-4 dental implants are a great option for patients with limited time to undergo the necessary procedures for traditional implants. Whether they do not have the time to schedule the multiple visits or would like a faster way in having fixed permanent teeth, this procedure is a very safe, proven and fast solution.

More About The Procedure

Most dental implant procedures can usually be performed with local anesthetic in the dental office. Patients tolerate this procedure very well and the procedure can be compared to a patient having a routine filling placed in the dental office. Our implant team highly recommends a form of sedation that will make you feel relaxed and comfortable. We have a team approach for treatment planning for dental implants. Our team is composed of a prosthodontist (Dr. Drone), an oral surgeon and our in-house dental laboratory technicians. Oral surgeons and periodontists are dental specialists that have advanced specialty training in removing teeth, bone grafting, gum tissue grafting, and placement of dental implants. Dr. Drone is a prosthodontist with advanced specialty training in designing and planning the following dental treatment options: smile designs, designing crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures, and dental implants. He works closely with our in-house dental laboratory technicians in designing your new smile, a surgical guide is used to place the implants in the exact location needed for an ideal outcome and for your final dental implant bridge.

Examination & Treatment Plan

The first step is to have a thorough comprehensive examination by Dr. Drone and one of our oral surgeon. Dr. Drone will evaluate the condition of your teeth, jaw bone, gums, appearance of your teeth and review your medical history. A CT scan is taken to evaluate the health of your jaw bone and will be utilized by the oral surgeon and Dr. Drone for implant planning and design of a surgical guide. Digital impressions and photographs will be taken and also aid in the treatment planning phase. Our team of dental laboratory technicians will help design the final bridge with Dr. Drone so we can meet your expectations and provide you with the esthetic result you always wanted.

Placement of Implants and Bridge

After your teeth have been designed, it time for the placement of your dental implants. The surgeon will use sedation that will make you feel relaxed and comfortable. A small incision is made in your gums and the surgical guide is place and used for the precise placement of the implant into the jaw. Dr. Drone will then attach your new implant dental bridge to your implants. The All-on-4 implant procedure takes between 3 to 4 hours.

Although your implant bridge is connected immediately after the four dental implants are placed, the jawbones around the dental implants requires approximately 3 to 4 months to heal and grow around the implants. After the healing period is over, Dr. Drone and our in-house dental laboratory technicians will discuss the design and dental materials for your final bridge. The final bridge can be made of the most common dental materials such as:

  • Traditional denture acrylic attached to a titanium bar
  • Titanium bar with composite resins for gums and ceramic crowns cemented to the titanium bar
  • Zirconia (ceramic) bridge with ceramic crowns cemented to the frame
  • Pekkton (fiberglass framework) with ceramic crowns cemented to frame
